Digging up the Romans

Museum of London site offering an overview of life in Roman London...

The Museum of London’s informative and interactive new website looks at London life in Roman times. Digging up the Romans uses the museum’s large collection of ancient artefacts to illustrate the people, the culture and the history of early Londoners.

Find out who were the people living in Londinium in AD43 by exploring detailed case studies, numerous photographs and by downloading movie clips of recent excavations. The site contains various sections for different ages such as discovering town life and trade, transport and beliefs which all have interactive and explanatory studies and stunning images as evidence. Other easy-to-navigate sections on the army and invasion and settlement explore Boudica’s revolt in AD60 and her sacking of London.

The section introductions are geared for KS2 pupils while secondary levels expand the themes in greater detail and the archaeology in action sections are aimed at 16+ students. A detailed Links section also points visitors to other useful related websites.
