Ann Hills talks of the legend of Peddars Way, a Roman road in Norfolk.
The Peddar's Way - Norfolk's best preserved Roman road – has a fresh lease of life. The old route, built after the rebellious Boudicca marched on the invaders with her Iceni tribesmen, is part of a new long distance path. It will be opened by Prince Charles on July 8th, but already a new guidebook has been published – The Peddars Way and Norfolk Coast Path by Bruce Robinson (HMSO, £4.95).
Forty-six miles from Thetford to the tip of north-west Norfolk have been Way-marked. At Holme-next- to-the-Sea walkers turn east to follow the newly designated Coast Path to Cromer, making up a total of ninety- three miles.
