The HA on the Move

Ian Fitzgerald investigates some changes to the Historical Association.

The Historical Association is on the move – in more ways than one. For the past ninety years the Association has devoted itself to promoting the study of history. Now two new initiatives look set to bring the Association and its activities to a more varied audience than ever before. The first sees the HA's archive relocated to a new home at Nottingham University, giving researchers easy access to the Association's extensive records; the second development (outlined in more detail on page 45) is the setting-up of closer links between the Historical Association and History Today in the form of joint travel, publishing and education ventures.

The archive, which fills some ninety-four standard archive boxes, moved to Nottingham University's Hallward Library in May and is held in the Manuscripts and Special Collections Department. By December, once the unpacking and cataloguing is completed, the Association's records will be opened to outside scrutiny.
