Illustrated with newly commissioned photography and previously unseen artwork and archive material revealing the richly ornamented interiors and architecture, The Houses of Parliament begins by focusing on the ceremonies and traditions of the current Palace of Westminster, which was designed by Charles Barry when the original building burnt down in 1834.

Subsequent sections, with contributions by experts such as David Cannadine, Gavin Stamp, William Vaughan and Steven Parissien, examine the architecture, furnishings, decoration and historical context for the new Palace, which quickly became one of the most famous and instantly recognisable buildings in the world.
