Oriental dealers Eskenazi and their new London outlet

The opening of new premises for the display of historic art is a rare enough occurrence in London – still plagued as it is by the aftermath of recession – but doing so with not one but two exhibitions of significant historical objects is particular cause for pleasure. This has been the case with the move of the Oriental dealers Eskenazi to a new London site in Clifford Street, which was celebrated with striking displays of early Chinese tomb and temple objects ranging from the fifth century BC to twelfth century AD, and of the Japanese miniature sculptures known as netsuke – which flourished in the period of exclusion from the outside world between 1639 and 1853.
