Discussion of Vichy, the regime which ruled the southern part of France during the Second World War, still evokes high emotion in France 70 years after it first came to power. During this time perceptions of Vichy have changed from it being seen as France’s saviour to it being labelled ‘an illegitimate regime’ that did not represent the French people.
