The Arts Council exhibition, English Romanesque Art 1066-1200, currently at the Hayward Gallery in London (until July 8th) may be considered to be mainly a Good Thing. It gathers together works of art in many different media, from many different places, making it possible to assess afresh the achievement of that art in its many phases and aspects. The exhibition should prove of great interest to specialists, devotees of the Romanesque, and a wider audience.
