A glossary of historical terms

Tyre

A port on the Levantine coast that had become the leading Phoenician city by the 10th century BC, establishing trading colonies throughout the Mediterranean, including Carthage. It was sacked by the Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, in 574 BC but remained an important port into Roman times.
