Tongking crisis
Political crisis in the USA after 7 August 1964, during the Vietnam War, when President Lyndon B. Johnson claimed that North Vietnam had attacked American destroyers in the Gulf of Tongking. (In fact, the destroyers were protecting South Vietnamese personnel attacking North Vietnam.) The US Senate passed The Tonking Gulf Resolution, authorizing all neccssary measures to deal with North Vietnam's aggression.
