Ten Thousand

Greek mercenary force raised by the Spartan commander Lysander, in support of Cyrus' rebellion against his brother the Persian king (401 BC). The rebellion failed, but the retreat of the 'Ten Thousand' was immortalized by the historian Xenophon.
