A glossary of historical terms
Solutrean culture
European Upper Paleolithic tool industry dating from about 23,000-17,000 ya, following the Gravettian culture. Solutrean toolmakers developed pressure-flaking techniques for the production of exceptionally fine bifacially-worked stone implements, notably leaf-shaped projectile points. They lived in a cold glacial phase, hunting large herd animals such as bison.
