Sinhalese

The ethnic majority of Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon). They are believed to have originated in northern India and migrated to Ceylon in about 500 BC, overwhelming the aboriginal Veddas. They speak an Indo-European language and are predominantly Buddhist.
