Sanskrit

The classical literary language of India. Vedic Sanskrit, one of the oldest surviving Indo-European languages, was used from about 1500 BC to 200 BC; classical Sanskrit was used from about 500 BC, developed first as a court language, then adapted for literary and religious purposes, for which it is still used.
