Capital city of South Vietnam from 1954 and headquarters of South Vietnamese and American military forces during the Vietnam War. Attacked during the Tet Offensive, it was evacuated by American forces in 1973. It was occupied by North Vietnam in 1975 and renamed Ho Chi Minh City.
