A glossary of historical terms

Phrygia, Phrygians

Central area of western Asia Minor whose native rulers included Mitas. Absorbed into Lydia, it became part of the Achemenid empire in 545 BC, then fell under Greek and finally Roman influence. The area was divided between the provinces of Asia and Galatia.
