Philistines

One of the Sea Peoples who settled on the Levantine coast, expelling the Canaanites. By 1150 BC they had set up a confederacy of city-states (Ashkelon, Gaza, Ashdod, Gath and Ekron). They were conquered by Israel in about 1000 BC but soon regained their independence. From about 650 BC the Philistines were vassals of the Assyrians, Egyptians and Babylonians.
