Oldowan culture

The earliest tool industry (c.2.4-1.4 million ya) that is associated with the first humans (Homo habilis) at sites in east Africa, such as Olduvai Gorge (after which it is named), Koobi Fora and Omo. Flaked pebble tools, choppers and flakes were used for crushing, cutting and scraping. The more consistent Developed Oldowan industry (c.1.5-0.7 million ya), contemporary with early Acheulian industries, was probably employed by hand-ax users for specific tasks.
