Nova Scotia

Atlantic province of Canada discovered by John Cabot in 1497. It was settled in 1605 by the French, who named the area Acadia. English and Scottish settlers arrived from 1621, and a struggle for control ensued. It was ceded to Britain in the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713 and the French-speaking Acadians were expelled.
