Nepos, Julius

Roman emperor of the west from AD474 to 475. He recognized Visigoth sovereignty in Spain and southern Gaul. Deposed by Orestes, who placed his son Romulus Augustulus on the throne, Nepos fled to Dalmatia. He continued to be recognized as emperor by Zeno, the emperor of the east, until his murder in 480.
