Narses

(AD 480-573) Armenian eunuch, general and adviser to the eastern Roman emperor Justinian. As commander of the imperial bodyguard, Narses played a major part in suppressing the Nika riots of 532, which nearly overthrew Justinian. He completed the conquest of the Ostrogoth kingdom of Italy between 551 and 562.
