Magdalenian

The last cultural phase (c.17,000–11,000 ya) of the Upper Paleolithic period in western and central Europe. The Magdalenian communities were specialized reindeer hunters, and later turned to sea-mammal hunting using distinctive bone harpoons. They are also renowned for their works of art and the most accomplished and impressive cave paintings are Magdalenian in date, including those at Lascaux and Altamira.
