A glossary of historical terms
Iliad
One of Europe's great epics, traditionally ascribed to Homer, which tells the story of the hero Achilles during the Greek siege of Troy. A poem about war and the pity of war, it explores the nature of heroism and leadership. It was probably brought to its final form in about 750 BC, but contains material that may be dated to Mycenaean times.
