Huerta, Victoriano

(1854-1916) Mexican general who in 1913 established a military dictatorship after the Francisco Madero revolution (1910-11). The American president Woodrow Wilson banned arms shipments to Huerta, and the US occupied Veracruz in April 1914. Huerta resigned in July 1914 and the USA recognized Venustiano Carranza as president of Mexico.
