Hatti

Assyrian name for the people of central Anatolia who spoke a non-Indo-European language (Hattian) in the late 3rd millennium BC. This region was occupied from about 2000 BC by the Indo-European Hittites, who are sometimes confusingly identified with the Hatti, though the latter were one of several distinct populations ruled by Hittite kings.
