A glossary of historical terms
Dravidians
People of southern India who are sometimes regarded as the original pre-Aryan hunter-gatherer population, which adopted farming from the 4th millennium BC. Their actual ethnic and racial distinctiveness is open to question, and the term is now used mainly to describe speakers of the Dravidian languages, which are still widely used in southern India.
