Demosthenes

The greatest orator of Athens (384-322 BC), remembered for his impassioned denunciations of the ambitions of Philip II of Macedon. He could do little to save his city, however, and Athens was defeated by Philip in 338 BC. Despite this, Demosthenes remained a leading statesman in Athens until his death.
