Delphi

Important shrine of Apollo, situated on the slopes of Mount Parnassus, central Greece. Its famous oracle attracted visitors from all parts of the Greek world, and the Pythian Games held at the shrine were second only to those held at Olympia. The site was crowded with treasuries, temples and statues donated by cities and supplicants. Delphi played an important role during the period of Greek colonization, advising migrants where they should settle.
