Concert of Europe

Consensus among European monarchies after the fall of Napoleon Bonaparte that leading powers should act in concert to maintain the status quo. The great powers assumed the right to intervene in the internal affairs of states threatened by revolution. Maintained by the Congress system, it was a major influence on European politics in the 19th century.
