Bogomils

A heretical movement that took its name from a 10th-century Bulgarian village priest. Active in the Balkans, the Bogomils preached against the Orthodox church and the Byzantine rulers, and for dualism (the material world is evil; the unseen spiritual world is good). They spread into Europe as Cathars.
