Berlin, Congress of

(1878) Congress called to revise the Treaty of San Stefano and establish new frontiers in the Balkans. Bulgarian territory was limited. Romania, Serbia and Montenegro were recognized as independent. Austria occupied Bosnia-Herzegovina (still technically ruled by the Ottomans). Russia took Bessarabia and Britain acquired Cyprus. This arrangement lasted 30 years.
