Bandkeramik culture

(5400 to 4500 BC) The earliest farming culture of the central European Neolithic, characterized by round-based decorated pottery, large timber longhouses, and slash-and-burn horticulture. It spread by gradual colonization from the Balkans across central Europe, as far as Poland, the Netherlands and France, exploiting domestic plants and animals derived from the Near East.
