Azuchi-Momoyama period

Period of Japanese unification (1574-1600) under Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, named after the castles they built. They brought all the provinces under the control of the central government, reformed the tax system and regulated trade. The Edo period followed.
