Ayutthaya

Thai kingdom named for its capital Ayutthaya, north of Bangkok, Thailand. It was the direct precursor of the kingdom of Siam. The city, founded in 1351 by Ramathabodi I, was the capital until it was sacked by the Burmese in 1767. There are extensive ruins.
