Ayacucho, Battle of

Final attempt by Spain to prevent the loss of its South American empire, fought in Peru in 1824. After heavy losses inflicted by the South American general Antonio Jose de Sucre, Spain evacuated. Sucre then moved east to establish the Republic of Bolivia in 1825.
