Austrian empire

Central European territories, including Bohemia, Hungary and Austria, under the rule of the Habsburgs. From 1516, when Charles V became king of Spain, it was a subordinate member of the Habsburg domains. As a result of the Thirty Years War, as Spain declined, it became an important European power. It was crucial in preventing any further expansion of the Ottomans into Europe. The Austrian empire collapsed in 1918.
