Austerlitz, Battle of
(2 December 1805) A tactical triumph for Bonaparte and the decisive battle of the War of the Third Coalition, fought in Moravia, between the French and Austro-Russian armies. Bonaparte smashed the allied center, forcing the Austrians to surrender and the Russians to flee. The resulting peace at Pressburg (1805) gave him control of most of Germany.
