The 1867 compromise between Austria and Hungary that transformed the Austrian empire into the Dual Monarchy of Austria-Hungary. The privileged position of Hungary was resented, and there were attempts to extend the Ausgleich to a separate Slav kingdom, but the arrangement lasted until 1918.
