Aung San

(1916-47) Burmese politician who founded the Anti-Fascist People's Freedom League to liberate Burma (Myanmar) from British rule. He sided first with Japan (1942) and then with Britain (1945) during World War II and was the virtual head of Burma's postwar government until his assassination.
