Augustus II

King of Poland (r.1697-1733) who regained Podolia and Ukraine from the Ottomans but failed to recover Livonia from Sweden in the ruinous Great Northern War. Deposed in 1704, he was restored with Russian help in 1710. In his reign Poland's power declined.
