Attila
King of the Huns (r.AD 435-53), who undertook military campaigns against Rome from AD 442 until his death in 453. He attacked the Balkan Roman province (442-43, 447); invaded Gaul, where he was defeated by Roman and allied forces at the Catalaunian Plain (451); and finally sacked various Italian cities (452).
