A glossary of historical terms
Aryans
Pastoralist people from central Asia with an Indo-European language who invaded Iran and India in about 1500 BC. They may have been related to the Kassites. By 900 BC they ruled most of northern India, establishing small kingdoms that coalesced into larger states. Their relevance to Indo-European language origins is disputed, and the existence of an Aryan 'race' has no foundation in biological anthropology.
