Aristotle

Greek philosopher born in the northern Aegean (384-322 BC). He studied with Plato in Athens before embarking on an extraordinary intellectual career which penetrated almost every area of philosophy, the sciences, ethics and politics. He is chiefly remembered for his system of logic, as a founder of the discipline of zoology and for his thoughts on the nature of man. His work dominated medieval scientific thinking and some aspects of it were of value as late as the 19th century.
