Arikamedu

Trading port near Pondicherry on the coast of southeast India in the early centuries AD. Roman artifacts, including coins and pottery, have been excavated there since 1945. It may have been known as Poduce in ancient times, and contact with the Mediterranean may have begun well before the Roman period.
