Arianism

The early Christian belief, developed by Arius (a priest in Alexandria) and others, that Jesus was a distinct creation of God the Father. Arianism was condemned as heresy at the Council of Nicaea in 325 (which proclaimed that Jesus had always been part of God), but remained strong in the eastern Roman empire.
