Anjou

County of northwest France and seat of the Angevin dynasty. Count Henry of Anjou, son of Geoffrey Plantagenet, became king of England in 1154. Anjou continued to be held by the English kings as a fief from the French crown until John lost the county in 1204. Anjou became a duchy in 1297 and was annexed to the French crown by Louis XI in 1480.
