Anglo-Dutch wars

A series of naval wars fought in 1652-54, 1665-67 and 1672-74 through trade rivalry: the Dutch destroyed the English fleet at Chatham in 1667 but England seized New Amsterdam (New York). A final war broke out (1780) over Dutch trade with the American colonists.
