Angel Island

American immigration station opened in 1910, west of San Francisco. It was the west-coast equivalent of Ellis Island. Despite the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882), most of the immigrants processed were Chinese and of these 30 percent were excluded. Priority was given to Chinese who had a Chinese-American parent.
