Amenemhet I

Egyptian pharaoh of the Middle Kingdom (r.1991- 1962 BC), who founded the 12th Dynasty and enforced strong Egyptian control over Nubia. He initiated the practice of installing his son as co-ruler, so as to ensure a smoother succession from one pharaoh to the next.
