Amaravati
Site in Andhra Pradesh state, eastern India - the most important site in Indian Buddhism from the 3rd century BC to the period of Islamic rule, and the capital of the Buddhist kingdom of Andhra. Its stupa (from 200 BC) was of exceptional size and contained sculptures of fine detail and narrative power. The Amaravati style spread as far as southeast Asia.
