A glossary of historical terms
Altamira
Cave site in northern Spain famous for its Upper Paleolithic paintings of bison and other animal and anthropomorphic figures. The cave was used by hunting communities over a long period, though the paintings are probably associated with Solutrean and Magdalenian occupation levels, (c.22,000-17,000 ya).
